Service Management as an integral component of the Logistics Applications (Procurement, Production, Sales and Distribution) provides core service management functions: customer administration, service contracts and service orders, resource related invoicing, installed base management, warranties, call management (logging, execution, closure), resource management (planning and usage of materials, labor, tools)
Data dealt with in contracts include validity period, cancellation, billing plan, follow-up activities, pricing and status management, where as service product in contracts is based on characteristics such as product, service window, reaction time, service zones, regular visits; and pricing of the same is set according to selected options per characteristics.
Serial numbers may be tracked throughout the logistics inbound (Procurement, Production) and outbound (Sales) processes.

The Master Warranty is used to store information such as description, general conditions, classification at header level, services included or excluded at item level and counter limits in validity, which are checked against equipment counters. From a customer call a Service Notification is logged in the Call Management System. A Notification Task, a Service Order or a Sales Order may be generated in Call Handling, depending if it has to be dealt with on Hotline, by a Technician on Site, as a Repair in Work Center or as a Spares delivery. In Call Closure a Technical Completion Confirmation, Resources Used (Time, Materials, Tool, Expenses) or a Delivery are dealt with. An Invoice Request or Billing Document will follow in Billing.
Tasks are automatically scheduled based on priority and service contract or service order type while the reaction time monitor provides a tool for monitoring the progress of the call for escalation purposes.
Service Orders (with time, material, tools and expenses used) are settled against a Profitability Segment or a General Ledger account.
